10 Affirmations To Help Your Recovery

Affirmations can be a powerful tool to use in addiction recovery because they help you shift the way you think. When repeated with confidence, they have the ability to change your life.
You may not realize this but you’ve been using affirmations for most of your life. The problem is that those affirmations have been more negative than positive. I’m sure many of us can remember being told as a child by a teacher, parent, or coach that we didn't have the ability to do something (we were fat, clumsy, etc.). These unwholesome statements can stay with us in the conscious or unconscious mind, which we then reinforce throughout our lives.
Another example is when someone is abandoned as a child, physically or emotionally, they may have an intense fear of failure because they’ve repeatedly told themselves, either out loud or in their mind, that they aren’t worthy of success.
What are affirmations?
Affirmations are positive statements that, when repeated with confidence, can shift the way you think. They can also help you manifest what you want into reality. When you say an affirmation, you’re sending an intention out to the Universe that you want this thing, whether it be helpful or harmful.
For instance, when you got high for the first time, You were sending the intention that whatever the substance was, it made you feel good therefore you wanted more of it. Your mind doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not so it goes off of what you tell it.
An example of this is when you watch a sad movie, you get teary eyed because your mind is emphasizing with the characters even though you know it’s not real, your mind doesn’t so it thinks the thoughts that lead to those emotions.
